The Polk Chopper was the name of the second issue of the student newspaper for the newly opened Polk Junior College. Undoubtedly this name was inspired by the temporary initial location of the college at the Bartow airfield, formerly a WWII US Army Air Force base.
The Polk Junior College Newspaper was the name of the first issue of the first student newspaper for the newly opened Polk Junior College. Inspired by campus' location at the Bartow airfield, formerly a WWII US Army Air Force base, the second issue was simply titled "Polk Chopper." The first issue is dated October 29, 1964 and the second issue (from November, 1964) is not formally dated.
